1. Information we collect

We may collect information you provide directly, including your name, email address, account and profile information, your location preference for Local news, comments, messages, reports, evidence submissions, contact enquiries and other contributions. Where you upload content, we may also receive associated file or technical metadata.

We may collect technical and usage information such as device and browser information, IP address, log data, pages viewed, interactions, security events and approximate location information. Browser or device geolocation is only used when you give permission. Local news preferences use the minimum location precision reasonably required, and your precise location is not publicly exposed.

2. How we use information

We may use information to operate and improve Truism; provide accounts, Local news and personalised functionality; process reports, evidence, comments and messages; send alerts you have asked for and service communications; moderate content; prevent spam, fraud and abuse; investigate security issues; respond to enquiries; measure platform performance; and meet legal obligations.

AI-assisted systems may process submitted information and public or source material to help classify, compare, moderate, verify, deduplicate and organise news and evidence. Higher-risk or sensitive material may be escalated for human review. AI-assisted decisions are not infallible and not every decision is individually reviewed by a person.

3. Community contributions and public information

Content you intentionally publish or contribute to public areas of Truism may be visible to others. Private messages and non-public account information are not presented publicly, except where required by law, necessary for safety or security, or with appropriate consent.

Reports and evidence may be retained in an audit or editorial record even where they are not publicly displayed, where that is reasonably necessary for accuracy, moderation, safety or legal purposes.

4. Third parties

Information may be processed by service providers needed to operate Truism, such as hosting and database, authentication, email, analytics, security, AI and technology and other infrastructure providers. We disclose information only as reasonably necessary for those services, for legal compliance, for safety and security, in connection with a corporate transaction, or with your consent.

The Truism does not sell your personal information.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Truism may use essential storage and cookies and, where enabled, analytics or preference technologies. These support login, security, preferences, your Local location selection and understanding how the service is used. Any future advertising or marketing tracking will comply with applicable consent and legal requirements, and this policy will be updated before materially different tracking is introduced.

6. Data security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for platform, editorial and audit, safety, legal and legitimate business purposes. Different retention periods apply to different kinds of data.

7. Your choices and rights

You can update your account information and preferences, change your Local news area, and control browser geolocation permissions at any time. You can contact us about access, correction, deletion or any privacy question. Some information may need to be retained where required by law, or for security, dispute prevention or legitimate editorial and audit requirements. 8. Children

Truism is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children contrary to applicable law. Sensitive reports involving minors receive heightened safeguards and may be withheld, restricted or escalated for human review.

Technology and service providers used to operate Truism may process data outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps as required by applicable law in relation to that handling.
